Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) initiative

From July 21st to 23rd, 2025, the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) proudly hosted the RUFORUM Executive Mission as part of the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) initiative. The RUFORUM Executive Mission led by Prof. Patrick Okori, the Executive Secretary of RUFORUM, brought together key stakeholders, academic leaders, and partners including the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) to deepen institutional engagement and drive forward transformative education and innovation in agri-food systems and entrepreneurship. TAGDev Program being implemented in 12 African Universities is being coordinated by RUFORUM in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. At the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, it seeks to strengthen the rice – aquaculture value chain with partners through innovative community action research for development.

Day 1
The Mission kicked off on Monday, July 21, 2025 with a warm welcome by Prof. Ibisime Etela (TAGDev 2.0 Coordinator). Prof. Anthony Egeru (TAGDev 2.0 Director) emphasized the need for impactful collaboration in agricultural education speaking on Agri-Food Systems and Entrepreneurship Center (ASEC) Partners Delivery. Highlights include:
✅ ASEC conceptualization and key deliverables discussion;
✅A deep dive into the differences between program and project delivery in development-oriented universities, and brainstorming on innovative ASEC delivery models for achieving scalable, cost-effective, and traceable outcomes facilitated by Prof. Patrick Okori, Executive Secretary of RUFORUM.
