It is official!!
The TAGDev 2.0 Programme at the University of Port Harcourt was officially launched on the 29th of May at the Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill. The Programme Coordinator, Prof. Ibisime Etela gave an overview of TAGDev 2.0 Programme at the University highlighting the key areas of intervention as being skilling of young women and men in entrepreneurship, building capacity of farmers and rice value chain actors in climate-smart Agriculture, and job and wealth creation. The Event was attended by dignitaries, partner Institutions, private sectors, students, youths, farmers cooperatives, media houses and corporate organizations in the rice value chain across the geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The TAGDev 2.0 Programme aims to transform African agricultural universities to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s growth and development. It is a collaborative effort between the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), the Mastercard Foundation, and 12 other RUFORUM member universities including University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The Programme focuses on strengthening universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to better serve communities by skilling and empowering Nigeria’s young people and their institutions to drive inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient transformation of agriculture and agrifood systems.
