TAGDev 2.0 UniPort Showcases Impact at UniPort’s 36th Convocation Research Fair & Exhibition

On Thursday, 4th June 2026, the TAGDev 2.0 Program (an initiative of University of Port Harcourt with support from RUFORUM and in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation) participated in the Research Fair & Exhibition of the 36th Convocation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort). The program used this platform to showcase its work, increase visibility, and share results with the university community.

As part of the engagement, TAGDev 2.0 Program had the honor of briefing the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (Prof. Owunari Georgewill), his management team, and the wider university community.

The briefing highlighted one of TAGDev 2.0 Program’s most significant shifts which is the transformation of youth perception of agriculture by leveraging the TAGDev 2.0 Program Scholarship scheme. Prior to the program, applications to study agriculture at UniPort were notably low, with the discipline often viewed as a second-hand course.

Through TAGDev 2.0 Program’s focus on innovation, experiential learning, and entrepreneurship, the narrative is changing. Applications to agriculture-related programs in UniPort have now skyrocketed. The program has also recorded increased participation of women, persons with disabilities, and out-of-school youth in agricultural training and enterprise development.
This reflects the core objective of TAGDev 2.0 Program to reposition agriculture as a viable, innovative, gender responsive and profitable career path for Africa’s next generation, and to contribute meaningfully to food and nutrition security in Nigeria.

Indeed, TAGDev 2.0 Program in UniPort is building partnerships and equipping young people with the skills to lead sustainable agricultural transformation.
