Youths play a key role in building sustainable communities for promoting national growth and development. On 24th March, 2026, TAGDev 2.0 Program (a collaborative effort of the University of Port Harcourt, with support from RUFORUM, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation) collaborated with Speedlink Training Institute, Obagi Host Community Development Trust (Obagi HCDT) amongst other partners to host the Orientation Ceremony of the Batch 3 students of Speedlink Training Institute.

The Event, themed “Beyond Potential: Engineering Impact in the Digital Age”, was held at Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt. During the Event, The TAGDev 2.0 Program Coordinator (Prof. Ibisime Etela) in his keynote address called on youths to seize available opportunities to improve their lives and contribute to national development.

He emphasized the importance of harnessing opportunities in education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, ICT (information, communications and technology) and other fields for personal growth and societal advancement. He stressed that the Event is a rare platform for young people to excel, transform their lives and ultimately transform their communities.

In an interview with newsmen, Prof. Etela highlighted the shift towards a knowledge economy, emphasizing that only those prepared will survive. “I urge attendees to look beyond immediate gains of this program and focus on their tomorrow’s advancement,” he said.
The Obagi HCDT is designed to bring out the potentials in youths, and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society.
