TAGDev 2.0 Equips over 100 University of Port Harcourt Staff with Skills for Transformative Education.

Transformative education approach creates an inclusive and impactful learning environment. From February 18 – 19, 2026, Maple Advocacy for Positive Change Initiative in collaboration with TAGDev 2.0 Programme, University of Port Harcourt, with support from RUFORUM in partnership with Mastercard Foundation organised a 2-day soft skills training for University of Port Harcourt staff with the theme:”Skills for Transformative Education Facilitation”.

The Event brought together University of Port Harcourt staff to explore key themes in transformative education. Facilitators included renowned experts, such as the 7th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor J. A. Ajienka, with other subject matter experts including,  Professor S. T. Birabil, Professor Professor Mina Ogbanga (CFRM), Professor Cheta Williams (Dean, Faculty of Education), Dr. Sylvester Udeorah, PhD, and Dr Mazi Eze.

Through interactive sessions, participants delved into topics such as thought leadership in entrepreneurial universities, entrepreneurship practices, disability awareness, experiential learning, gender and disability-responsive adaptive pedagogy, and communication for transformative education.

The training served as a call to action, urging university staff to adopt transformative education practices that prioritize mindset shifts, innovative research, entrepreneurship, and collaborations. Participants were encouraged to embrace experiential learning, gender responsiveness, and inclusive communication to create sustainable impacts on learners that, foster a culture of positive change.

Professor Ibisime Etela, the Programme Coordinator of TAGDev 2.0,  expressed gratitude to the over 100 university staff who attended the training and reiterated the importance of applying the learnings to drive transformational change within the university system and their communities. The Director of Maple Advocacy for Positive Change Initiative, Barr. Chidi Otamiri, reassured the university management and staff of their commitment to partnering with the TAGDev 2.0 Programme to drive transformative change within the University of Port Harcourt.

The event concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the modules delivered and receiving certificates of participation symbolizing their commitment to transformative education. Indeed, TAGDev 2.0 Programme is driving inclusive, equitable, and empowering learning environment at the University of Port Harcourt.
