Building stronger institutions: TAGDev 2.0 UniPort equips Communication Officers with skills to drive impact & visibility.

‘He who fails to plan, plans to fail’. Of course, this is a mantra that rings true, especially in communication. From co-creating program communication plans to increasing program sustainability, Communication Officers play a critical role in boosting visibility and promoting brands.

From Thursday 26th to Friday 27th February 2026, the TAGDev 2.0  Program at the University of Port Harcourt,  with support from RUFORUM and in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, brought together Communication Officers, Public Relation Officers, and Directors of Information for a 2-day training workshop, with the theme ‘Skilling to meet institutional reputation and development communication needs’.

The participants were taken through nine critical areas to boost their understanding and 
skill on creating communication action plan;
1. Developing Organizational and Project Communication Strategy,
2. Using Events, Exhibition, and Branding to Enhance Organizational Visibility,
3. Public Awareness Tools II: Audio-Visual Presentations, Posters, Photography, Videography, Artworks, Website, Skits, and New Media Tools,
4. Developing a Communication Action Plan,
5. Conducting Media Interviews,
6. Communicating Organizations and Projects in Crisis Situations,
7. Media Relations and Stakeholder Engagement for Organizations and Projects,
8. Public Awareness Tools I: Press Releases, Placed Articles, Press Conferences, Newsletters, Annual Reports and Mailing Lists, and
9. Organizations and Projects Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning.

The participants gained hands-on skills, formed a community of practice and co-created draft communication action plans. With confidence, participants received their certificates of participation and are now equipped to draft communication strategies and plans that drive results.


With this training, TAGDev 2.0 Uniport is positioned to amplify its visibility and branding, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The TAGDev 2.0 program Coordinator, Prof Ibisime Etela reaffirmed that TAGDev 2.0 Uniport is not just building capacity of communication officers, but amplifying its visibility and brand for an impactful stakeholder engagement.
